Building with Willow

Living willow structures and sculptures are fun to make and fascinating to watch grow as they change with the seasons and years. During this practical one-day workshop we will show you all you need to know as we build a willow structure together at Bay Tree Cottage. Armed with this valuable hands-on experience you will be able to create a willow structure in your own garden!

The Cutting Garden - Design, Create and Grow Your Own Flower Garden
There is nothing more lovely than having a fragrant vase of flowers in the house and knowing that you have picked them all from your garden! If the credit crunch means that some of life’s little luxuries have gone by the wayside then redress the balance by growing your own flowers. This one-day course will show you how to prepare, plant, maintain and harvest buckets of flowers from your garden from March through to November.
Wednesday 10 March or Thursday 7 October

Botanical Drawing
Come and spend a relaxing day with us learning how to draw the beautiful foliage and flowers that grow in our gardens and hedgerows. No previous drawing experience is necessary as we will take the fear out of putting pencil, pastel or paint to paper! If you already know the basics but would like an opportunity to brush up on your skills, or an excuse to spend a day with pencil in hand then this is the course for you!
Wednesday 21 April

Wire Garden Sculpture at Canons Ashby
Working in partnership with the National Trust this course will be run in the gardens at Canons Ashby House. You will learn how to create beautiful figurative sculptures out of wire using Britain’s birds as our inspiration!
Wednesday 19 May

A Mid-Summer Garden Celebration
Join us on this one-day workshop and we will show you how to create beautiful decorations using all the glorious flowers and foliage available in the summer. Throughout the day we will work together to transform an out door space into a scrumptious setting suitable for either a relaxed summer BBQ or a more formal family celebration. The day will end with a late lunch and a chance for you to sit back and admire all your hard work!
Thursday 24 June (Mid-Summers Day!)

Garden Sculpture - Creating a personalised focal point in your garden
Do you have an area in your garden that would benefit from an eye-catching piece of sculpture? Have you had a hankering to create a piece of artwork yourself? If yes, then this one-day workshop is for you! Using willow, wire and objects gleaned from your home and garden, we will show you how to make a beautiful figurative or abstract sculpture to adorn your garden.
Friday 9 July

A Hedgerow Harvest
Come and join us for a fun day learning how to turn the fruits of the hedgerow into tasty produce to fill your larder. The morning will be spent showing you how to make a selection of hedgerow treats including blackberry brandy, crab-apple jelly and rosehip syrup. After lunch we will don our wellies and take you on a hedgerow walk so we can identify the hedgerow crops and you can gather your own harvest to take home.
Wednesday 22 September

Autumn Pruning & Propagation
This one-day workshop aims to provide you with the knowledge, skill and confidence to complete these important autumn tasks and allow you to enjoy the benefits in your garden!  In the morning we will show you the secrets of successful propagation, and after lunch we will tackle the bewildering subject of pruning, explaining why it is necessary and showing you exactly how it is done! By combining theory, demonstration and hands-on practice, by the end of the day you will be well equipped to prune or propagate any plant in your garden!
Thursday 30 September
