More Details
During this fun packed day, as well as the ivy ribbons and garlands of dried fruit, pine cones and cinnamon, you will make your very own Victorian Kissing Ball. With sprigs of mistletoe entwined with scented herbs and evergreen branches, the Victorians made these decorations for the same reason that we hang mistletoe today … to steal a kiss from an unsuspecting person passing under it! So as well as making a fabulous decoration for your home, you will be guaranteed a Christmas Kiss from your visitors this year!
The Victorians were also very enthusiastic about gift presentation and spent time making ornate papers, bags and boxes to hold small presents that could be hung on the Christmas tree. To follow this tradition, we will show you how to make Christmas Cornucopias, which when filled with sweets, toys or fragrant spices, make fabulous decorations for your Christmas tree and an alternative way of packaging smaller gifts.
After a delicious homemade lunch of seasonal goodies, (…some with an historic flavour!) you can sit back and relax, and watch us demonstrate how to make your very own Christmas crackers (another wonderful creation from the Victorian era) and fake holly berries the Victorian way!
